This is an evocative picture, painted circa 1850, of a rural scene with an old thatched cottage, a shepherd and his sheep. Although the background is dark there is certainly enough detail to complete this quiet evening scene. The lone tree on the left is balanced by the cottage and the pond reflects the deep blue sky. |
