Cecil Arthur Hunt

Hunt (1873-1965) was a landscape artist with a particularly ditnctive style. He was born in Torquay and lived in London. He was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1914 and the Royal Watercolour Society in 1925. He exhibited extensively from 1912 to 1940 at the Royal Academy (51), the Royal Watercolour Society (220), the Fine Art Siciety (369), the Royal Society of British Artists (59) and many others.

"Tantallon Castle" is not a major work by him - they can sell for £10,000 - but it is typical of his style. He was a forgotten artist until Chris Beetles' Art Gallery in London exhibited his work in a recent major exhibition. "The Alpine Valley" could not be more typical of Hunt's distinctive style and use of colour and shade. It is also a subject that inspired him as he returned to it on many occasions.
