A landscape painter, watercolourist and illustrator, Edmund Wimperis (1835-1900) was born in Chester. He exhibited widely including at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (126) and also at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. This particular work is a fine example of his ability to paint an extensive landscape and at the same time make the composition interesting and restful. It is signed with his initials and dated 1894. |
