Samuel John 'Lamorna' Birch

A landscape painter in oils and watercolours, Birch (1869-1955) lived in Manchester and Lancaster before studying in Paris in 1906. He worked with Stanhope Forbes in Newlyn and was an important member of the Newlyn School based in St Ives, Cornwall.

He exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy (146), the Royal Watercolour Society (287) and the Fine Art Society (445). His work is in many public and private collections and "St Ives, Cornwall" was purchased by the Chantry Bequest in 1938.

This particular watercolour is full of vitality, colour and lightness of touch.
