 William Leighton Leitch (1804-83) was a highly competant artist who was an elected member of the prestigious Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He travelled widely throughout Europe including Italy, Holland, Germany and Switzerland and his sketching pupils included Queen Victoria. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere and for 20 years was Vice President of the New Watercolour Society.
